Have you been seeing this activity pop up all over the internet? Here and here as beautiful artwork and Teacher Tom did it with his preschool class. I loved this idea and seeing as we have an over abundance of old crayons, I thought we would give it a go at our afterschool kids program.
We found as many pieces of cardboard as we could find then glued white paper onto it. After that the kids used a hot glue gun to glue crayons to the top.
It was so interesting to watch the children as they melted the crayons. Some stayed intent on the task for quite awhile, until almost all the crayons were melted and the canvas was completely full. They turned the hairdryer in different directions to make the crayons flow in different patterns.
Even the teenagers joined in on this one!
Here I am happy and covered in melted crayon from head to toe! Nothing gives me greater joy than watching kids become absorbed in something interesting, have fun, explore and create. So if you’re up for some messy fun, laughter and excitement, you might want to give this one a try!
~Enjoy!
